Riddle: I am desired by all, I am everyone’s goal, I become real in your most precious memories, and I can be felt whenever you decide. What am I?
Let’s imagine this.
Video games give you abilities, rules, tools, and a story, so you can complete missions, kill everyone, or score lots of points. It has always been like that, and it always will be.
Just picture this for a moment. You’re playing a game where you’re an 18-year-old boy. You’ve just finished high school, and you’re ready to go to an art college. You’re really passionate about music, and your amazing guitar skills make you dream of being a rockstar.
The first-class exhibition is coming, and you’ll play your favorite song, which in the game is “Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen”. You start moving the joystick up and down while pressing the right button so you can play the right note.
And there you are, enjoying the hell out of that song. Unexpectedly, everyone hears an explosion, you run towards your loved ones, and then, from afar, you see a little alien coming towards your father, and he takes him away.
With that introduction, you already know your mission, save your father.
The facts
Now let’s talk about real life for a moment, right now, you have a mission, don’t you? We all have one. Your mission could be as simple as feeding your pet, or as hard as going into surgery to save one more life with your own hands as a medic.
It doesn’t matter what you do, what you have, and where you are, your life is filled with little missions, big missions, and enormous missions, you got me right?
Let’s go back to the game for a moment. You have to travel to a certain planet where your dad is being held.
Oh, but, it’s not that simple, is it? You’ll need a spaceship and weapons, and you’ll need to find clues to get to the aliens.
Then, there is the rest of the world, people like you, who also lost someone because of the alien invasion, and they have the same mission, save their loved ones. Will they help you? Will you help them? Knowing that your father’s status is unknown and the longer it takes you to find him, the lesser the chances are of seeing him alive.
The missions
You were given a lot of spaceship choices, you can try them all and see which one fits your taste and the style of battle you like. You enjoy every one of them, but you picked the fastest one over the largest one, let’s face it, we are all addicted to adrenaline, and you are playing against time.
What did you feel when you were trying the spaceships? It felt good, right? You felt control over your messed up feelings. You were dealing with the adrenaline rather than the voice inside your head telling you that your father is missing.
At this point, you’ve got the following missions:
- Enormous mission: Save your dad.
- Big missions: Get a spaceship and clues to find the exact spot.
- Little missions: Get weapons.
- Optional missions: Help other people to find their loved ones.
It goes without saying that helping others, whether in real life or in games. It makes you feel so good inside, and it’s so rewarding to see someone happy. Plus, in the game, you get more weapons and rewards for helping.
Isn’t it amazing how having choices and making decisions makes us human? It’s by making the right decisions at the right time that we can stand out from the ordinary. I know you’ll agree with me! The cool thing is that you’ll learn which choice is the right one as you go along. It’s all part of the journey! And if you know your mission, you’ll make good choices for sure.
The choices
In games, you are the one that decides every single action. You have a choice that makes you feel relief, another choice that makes you feel afraid, you perform actions that make you feel powerful, and the result of those actions combined is the feeling of happiness and accomplishment.
You see? All of those feelings come before you complete that enormous mission.
It’s all about how you live your life. The way you choose to act, the way you treat people, and the way you appreciate the little moments in life — these are the actions that will make you happy. It’s really quite simple, isn’t it?
Enjoy every small mission, and your big mission will come to you, just like the moon comes out every night, you just need to enjoy the day.
Live your life like you’re playing a video game, and I promise you’ll have a whole new outlook on everything. You’ll appreciate your life so much more!
Happiness
It’s the answer to the riddle at the headline, and it’s something we all desire: happiness. But there are only a few of us who recognize that happiness is in the process of making choices.
“Enjoy every day with kindness, loyalty, and wildness.”
