Eccentric new dimension

Do you think that everyone deserves a second chance?

Well, I suppose we’ll find out. This game is about journeys of love, curiosity, and kindness. It’s about helping a married couple pass through new dimensions in order to save humanity. Or at least a version of it.

This project is a heartfelt journey. It explores what it means to be human, and more importantly, what it means to be good. It’s an ode to love, knowledge, and kindness woven into a world that begs to be explored and understood.

Writing Reflections

1. Here’s what I was trying to do

My goal was to tell a deep, personal story that didn’t rely on combat. I wanted the game to explore profound human values, such as love, curiosity, and kindness, through its mechanics, level design, and narrative. The game needed to reflect an emotional journey that players could experience rather than just play through.

2. Here’s why

I wanted to challenge the conventions of platformers by removing violence and focusing on empathy and discovery instead. The story of Klaus and Elissa enabled me to blend narrative depth with mechanical exploration. It was the ideal foundation for exploring meaningful player choices and symbolic storytelling.

3. Here’s what I was interested in achieving

The objective was for players to experience a story that feels personal, with gameplay and emotional stakes intertwined. My goal was to create an atmosphere that invites introspection and to design environments that communicate through metaphors. I also wanted to prototype mechanics that support this, such as health-restoring herbs, destructible environments, and breakable platforms, to reflect emotional vulnerability and growth.

4. These are choices I made
  • I chose Elissa as the main character because her perspective adds a deeply emotional dimension to the story. She’s not just following Klaus’s mission; she is the mission.

  • I removed combat in order to focus on puzzle-solving and exploration. Now, every interaction is intentional and non-violent.

  • A symbolic environmental story. For example, the jungle represented the element of love and was split into three themes: the Devoted, the Self-Absorbed, and the Existent.

  • Enemies that metaphorically represent challenges that humans face, such as fear, protectionism, and exploitation.

  • I designed the levels as philosophical journeys. Each area represents a theme rather than just a place.

Elissa

She is a brilliant French-Canadian engineer and sociologist, as well as Klaus’s devoted partner. Now, she must follow his trail across dimensions to complete the mission they started together. Oh yes, and find him.

Design Vision & Game Mechanics

This 2D platformer combines puzzle-solving with emotional storytelling. The game introduces:

  • A protagonist that cannot attack, only explore and interact

  • AI enemies with specific behaviors (panthers, snakes, tribesmen, etc.)

  • Interactive environmental mechanics like vines, boxes, cables, rafts, and destructible elements

  • A survival experience that requires health management and strategic movement

Dimension One: LOVE (Prototype Level)

In a vivid jungle setting, players are confronted with the duality of nature: its nurturing beauty, its untamed unpredictability, and its tranquil resilience. As she encounters and explores, Elissa learns nature’s lessons and collects memories.

 

Future acts will take the player through:

  • A harsh Desert
  • A bustling City
  • Dangerous Snow Mountains
  • The mysterious Antique City
  • And finally, Elissa and Klaus’s Wedding, celebrated in the second cinematic

Personal Thoughts

This project is a heartfelt journey. It explores what it means to be human, and what it means to be good. An ode to love, knowledge, and kindness.
